Deeney was given his marching orders just 11 minutes into the Premier League clash at Vicarage Road
Gary Neville has labelled Troy Deeney’s actions “stupid” after he was sent off for hitting Lucas Torreira in the face in Arsenal’s win over Watford.
Deeney was given his marching orders just 11 minutes into the Premier League clash at Vicarage Road on Monday night following his collision with the Arsenal man.
Referee Craig Pawson showed the 30-year-old striker a straight red after he appeared to catch Torreira in the head, knocking him to the ground.
Deeney was furious with the decision and made his feelings known to Torreira, the fourth official and even Arsenal boss Unai Emery as he made his way to the tunnel.
But Neville has sided with the match official, and thinks Deeney should know that you can’t get away with doing such things in the modern game.
“He’s trying to lead but it’s just a stupid thing to do,” said Neville on Sky Sports.
“The linesman’s got a great view of it, he’s thrown his forearm into the face of Torreira.
“I think 15 years ago you’d probably say he’s not done a lot wrong, in the 2019 Premier League he’s got nowhere to go.”
