Shukela Xpress: Amakhosi’s Mid-Term Report | #KaizerChiefs

1. A Recap of last season

Last season Amakhosi finished in position 5, they won 11 games out of 30 and collected 46 points in total. Trust me, according to Amakhosi’s objectives and standards, that is regarded as a failed and dismal finish.

This time last season, or rather after 10 games or so, they were on top of the table with 28 points. They had won 9 games and drew 1, so finishing in 5th position at the end of the season was a bitter pill to swallow.

But now kuleseason (this season), after 15 games, they are on position 4 with 24 points. The message is quite clear, things are getting worse and worse, but the question is what seems to be the problem wrong?

2.Objectives and Goals

Every season, Amakhosi are expected to win every trophy on offer, trust me and if you don’t know this by now, you are not a football fan. Winning the league is compulsory, there’s no doubt about it. As a coach you can win other cups but if you don’t win them the league cup, you will be under pressure until you deliver it. This season, despite the bad start, Komphela must deliver the league nomakanjani (whatever it takes).

3.Coach and Playing staff

For me Komphela is a very good coach, but we are not going to see his best with regards to ability to coach a team as massive as Khosi. He doesn’t have the full control and he’s giving the material that iKhosi’s board feels ukuthi (that) saves them money, so you can only imagine what it’s like because quality doesn’t come cheap, the problem is not Komphela.

Playing for Chiefs means you are the best in the country, ability and mentality has to be of a high standards and must be prepared to play under pressure at all times, But the playing personal that Amakhosi has manje (now), are definitely not Chiefs material. So reinforcement with more quality will do wonders for Amakhosi, but again identification of quality is crucial.

4.Plan for a Sustainable future

Clearly at the rate things are going, they are not going to spend big in the market, so it calls for reliance on their development team, which hasn’t produced quality player in years, but again whoever identifies players from outside the boarders is not doing a good job. Rather promote youth bafethu (guys).

5.Tactical Identity

Unfortunately at Chiefs, style of play is key as well as results, so the reason Amakhosi are taking the games to Durban, Cape Town and Polokwane from time to time is they’ve lost numbers in fan base especially in Gauteng, trust me with quality players and shukela style of play, fans are going to come back.
